A March round up and April's goals

March saw a lovely catch up with one of my besties, and many hours on the phone to other wonderful friends. Flash and I only had 7 days 'just us' before Jim came home but their reunion was pretty adorable. We had a WI meeting with the lovely Jenn Edwards who taught us all about make up and revealed some tips that I'm using now. I also lost (and then found yesterday) the sensor for my FitBit so it became useless for most of the month. Our little favourite furry boy turned two. Work went crazy as we opened an awesome new venue. And life threw in a curve ball at about the same moment which has made my brain a bit useless, so I apologise for the neglect of this little space (and instagram and twitter but to a lesser extent). This fog also meant very few of March's goals got completed but I did watch a shit load of crap films on Netflix. We took a weekend away at Slaley Hall with Jim's family. The men play golf and us 'wags', well, we had the best intentions of using the spa but actually spent our time sitting in cosy corners of the hotel gossiping and eating and drinking copious cups of things which was just what I needed. There were a couple of photoshoots with work, namely for pies! That's normal right?

I'm hoping April brings me some more fun, and a little less brain fog!

Look who's two!

This week my favourite little guy turned two. He celebrated with a mammoth ball chasing session at one of Sheffield's hilly parks and a pigs ear and some rice pudding. We know how to party in this house!

After nearly two years (he came to us at 8weeks) it's hard to imagine our life without him in it now. He makes us smile, he makes the best hot water bottle, he wakes us up with kisses and knows exactly when to come and give me the cuddles I have needed so much recently, but he also knows just how to make me really mad, he knows where ever little bit of manky takeaway in the local park is and can sniff a bloody tennis ball out no matter how well we've hidden it.

He's about the naughtiest dog I've ever come across, but I think he might be perfect.

We spent a weekend with the camera recently. Here are just a few of the snaps I got, my favourite might be the barking one below, because whilst it looks like he might be the most vicious dog ever, he's mid high pitch squeak to try and get me to throw the stick! Also, check out all the dirt in that mouth!

The Liebster Award

The lovely Siobhan nominated me for a Liebster Award, and then randomly on the same day, so did Aarti. But as Siobhan's was the first I saw, I've gone and answered her questions! But how lovely to be nominted twice!

Here are my answers and a few nominations and questions of my own too.

1. What is your favourite song of all time and why?
Of all time. That's a tough one. It really is. Maybe 'Wouldn't it be nice' by The Beach Boys. It never fails to make me smile. And I love pretty much everything by The Beach Boys. Plus it reminds me of some awesome road trips that I've taken.

2. If you had to only eat one food for the rest of your life what would it be and why?
Cheese. Always cheese. Cheese is pretty awesome isn't it. 1, there are so many types of it, if I lived a LONG time I'd still not get bored of it. 2, you can melt it and it only gets better. 3, cheesecake! Need I go on?

3. What is your favourite thing about blogging?
I'm pretty sure any blogger who gets asked this question would say the same thing, the community around blogging. I've met so many amazing people through it. People who I may never meet in real life, people who I have, and 99% of them have been lovely. I love finding awesome new things, I love discovering new talents through tutorials, and I love the fact that blogs are now my go to recipe books and I even love that blogger envy you get when someone's life just seems oh so amazing!
I also love that happy feeling you get when you seen that you've got a comment and it's not spam!

4. Why did you get into blogging?

I can't really remember how I started blogging, I remember stumbling upon a few when I worked at the magazine in Leeds and they'd be my lunchtime read. They were mostly american blogs of people in fun places I dreamt of running away to (running away was a huge ambition of mine then) but one day I just decided I'd give it a go. My readership was probably zero at the time, my words and pictures were shit, but it was such a tumultuous time in my life that it felt nice to have a space that none of my real life friends knew about. I kept it secret for such a long time too!

5. What is your favourite band at the moment?
I don't think I have a favourite. I'm stuck in a huge music rut at the moment and sometimes it feels like my ipod hasn't been updated since the late 90's when I get a back to back string of the Charlatans, The Bluetones and Ash. But I love it when The Gaslight Anthem, or Ryan Adams, or The Vaccine, or even Taylor Swift comes on!

6. What is your favourite book you have read this year?

I'll be honest with you, reading hasn't been high on my priority list so far this year, but I just finished The Goldfinch and loved that!

7. If you could live anywhere in the world where would it be?

Vancouver. I've never been but just the fact it's near the mountains, and on the sea, makes it seem wholly perfect!

8. Have you got any 'lucky' items of clothing?

Nope. I tend to throw on anything that fits me in a round about way. I once had a lucky blanket as a kid but that was it.

9. What is your favourite season?

Winter. But only when it does it right. This winter has been a shambolic let down what was with all the rain and wind. That is not what we signed up for with winter was it? We signed up for some snow. I don't even want a lot of it - just a weeks worth would have been nice thankyouverymuch. I'm pinning my hopes on the summer to make up for winters mistakes.

10. What would be your dream job?
I think a job that meant I could spend all my winters in the mountains would be ace. Not on the slopes every day (my knees would hate that) but I just love the lifestyle so being up in a resort would b my dream job. One day when we win the lottery or something I'd love to own a ski chalet (or an empire of them).

Right, now onto the hard part - I've got some people to nominate. I'm going with some of my favourite local bloggers I think - Toni @Lemon Freckles, Claire @Pink Little Bean, Anna @Angel of the North, and Pearl @Fashion Pearls of Wisdom (a newbie to the city)!

And here goes with my questions;
1. What is your favourite post on your blog? And why?
2. Who are your favourite, must read, bloggers?
3. If you ever get a lazy, nothing to do day, what would be your ideal way to spend it?
4. What  are your blog goals for 2014?
5. White, milk or dark chocolate?
6. What is your can't do without make-up item?
7. If you could pick someone from a book/tv show to be your best friend, who would you want it to be and why?

8. What is your favourite thing about living here?
9. Where is the coolest place you've ever been?
10. What is your favourite social media platform?

Swatch Factory - A Review

A while ago I was asked if I'd like to take part in sampling a new service, Swatch Factory*. It's a decorating inspiration service to help you if you're unsure of what to do or just need a little bit of inspiration with your plans. At the moment I am mentally decorating the big house we're buying, and if you follow me on Pinterest you'll know I have one or two or maybe seven interior design boards that are full of beautiful, but conflicting images of how I'd like the house to look, so I thought there can't be any harm in getting someone else's thoughts on what to do with some of the space.

I chose to ask for inspiration for our living room. It's about the only room, when I imagine it, that I just can't picture. I think that's because everything will be new in there. We're not taking our old sofa's with us and don't yet know what we'll be buying, so there is nothing for me to build a vision around I guess.

As we don't have our own pictures of the rooms so the guys over at Swatch Factory had to make do with the RightMove pictures I have, but I tried to give them as much info as I could and then directed them to a couple of my pinboards for some more ideas on what I liked. It's all pretty straight forwards, nothing too complicated, just a few thoughts on what you're interested in.

And then a few weeks later, after a couple of emails from the lovely Charlotte at Swatch Factory, a little box, about the size of a Graze box, popped through my letter box filled with samples of fabric and pieces of wall papers and a note explaining the choices. It's all very nicely put together, with a glassine layer between the 2 elements. All the samples come labelled so you can go out and find them yourself too, which means even less messing about.

The one thing that struck me about a few of the samples was the metallic-ness of them. I've never really looked at metallic materials which is surprising really as I am a magpie normally, and definitely would pass a shiny wallpaper by in the shop thinking it wasn't what I liked, but having it pushed under my nose like that, has made me reconsider. Certainly on the fabric front. They'd also included a couple of patterns that I've seen before and thought 'oooooh' about but then not pinned or recorded anywhere.

I do have to say I was a little disappointed how closely the guys at Swatch Factory had stayed to my 'obsessed with greys in the house thing' especially as I'd commented on worrying about ending up with a big grey house (is this a bad thing though?). I was hoping that they'd push me a little further from the yellows and turquoises that I always seem to pin - but then again I did link them to the board populated with grey, yellow and turquoise room pictures so I maybe shouldn't have been. And they did point me in the metallics direction!

But it was a fun exercise to get some more inspiration and it's not massively expensive to do either (it's £25 per box). But if you fancy having a go then there is a 20% off discount for readers. All you have to do is click here and enter the code ohgoshblog20!

*I wasn't paid for this but did receive the service for free.

A February round up and March's Goals

For our entire relationship Jim's gone to India for the majority of February and this year has been no different. But before he left we ate out a LOT. Over the weekend before he left weekend we had 2 evening meals, one lunch and one breakfast out! The eggs benedict at Tamper is maybe my favourite meal about now. I collected a spotty car. I switched this blog to a custom domain. We also went and bought new trainers (his and hers air max's. We are so chavvy!) Then Flash and I saw him off and settled in for a month just the two of us. Well, that's a lie, it's a month of just us and him having some lovely little holidays at my parents. It was also a month of 4 day weeks to use up some of the holiday I'd been saving for the big house move (we have however got a sort of, hopeful, fingers crossed date for the move in the far distant future). Once Jim had gone to India, I set about teaching myself to tile and did a pretty decent job I think. I also did some sewing and made my dad some stuff for the boat out of an old sail, I went gin tasting with the WI, went to see Tom Odell, and played a LOT with my new Cricut mini (more on that another time). I also walked. Loads.

And not to March. We still have another 9 days without Jim to make the most of, but her is what I'd like to achieve.

What are you up to this March?
