The August Break

I don’t know how it has happened, or where it came from, but August has kind of snuck up on me. Seriously? August? Tomorrow? But with August comes a little holiday to the boat, visits to friends, and the fabulous August Break, which, in fairness, I really can’t say I need, given the sporadic nature of my blogging recently.

For those of you who don’t know, the August Break is a fab little blogging project from Susannah Conway, encouraging us all to not focus so much on the words, but pictures. She explains it better;
How it works: you simply share one photo (or more!) each day on your blog – Monday to Friday, or every day. Or whenever you feel moved to share. Using any camera – DSLR, compact, Polaroid, Holga, iPhone (my choice), Instax, film or digital – with or without words – anything goes! – for the whole of August. No pressure – just looking at August through your camera lens as a way to be more present this summer. And to have a little break from the pressures and expectations of regular blogging.

There are NO RULES, people! Just sunshine (hopefully) + a bit of fun. And lots of lovely photos to look at and new blogs to discover.

I will be shooting on my phone, and with my DSLR, and my instax mini, and I am sure there will also be words over August. No matter how lax I am at posting, I haven't managed to not talk during an August break yet! I just can't stay quiet for a whole month.

And maybe I can encourage a few of you to join in, you can 'sign up' free to the link-up here, and there is a Flickr group and an instagram hashtag too - #augustbreak.

A big decision to be made.

So, dear reader, if you had to, which colour would you pick?

A change of plans

So, you might have seen in the last post I mentioned how The Boy didn’t make it to India. In fact he only made it as far as Dubai, but after a run in with a door in the showers he’s back, hobbling about - with a massive gash in his leg and stitches to boot.

And it is so nice having him back – I can sleep. I can give him a hug. We don’t have to Skype. And the puppy won’t even have the chance to give me the ‘why have you made my daddy go away’ eyes. And, well, he’s just here, which is better all round! A|nd whilst he will have to go away again, it's not until September,

But this little selfish part of me {that he knows about – because I have told him} is a little annoyed he’s home - I always like to think I am spontaneous and up for last minute plans, but having my plans changed isn't sitting well with me. Him being away was going to give me time to get the house clean. Really clean – the sort of clean that doesn’t happen when a boy is about. And get the spare room sorted for my friends arrival. And have a bit of an ikea shopping trip. And reorganise. And not watch sport. Or cooking shows. And exercise. Lots. And eat ‘girl food’. And I know I can do most of these things with him here, but when there are two of you time seems to slip away from you a bit, and he just makes the most delicious food – it seems a shame to not eat it……. On the plus side though, I can rope him into painting the high bits of the attic, and maybe he’ll stop me spending a small fortune in Ikea, and possibly we might even fit a little date to see Batman in too.

Now I just have to figure out how to get the perfume he was buying me from duty free before this bottle runs out……

Instagrid Party #2

I don’t know what happened to blogging this last week – I had the greatest intentions but the blog post just never materialised.
But I thought I’d share a round up of my week with an Instagrid;

1. Instax mini’s have arrived. 2. My friend is coming to stay for a few weeks & she dropped some stuff off before heading on her hols – this pretty bottle came with her. 3. Flash has found a new favourite toy – it just happens to be my new rope doorstop. 4. We went to Sharrowvale Farmers Market. 5. With my friends arrival – the spare rooms needs a paint – bare plaster wont do. 6. As the boy was meant to be leaving we took some ‘family’ shots. 7. My Graze box*. 8. He didn’t want to be photographed. 9. The boy didn’t make it to India – long story, but he’s home to recuperate for now.

Instagrid Party

Anna at  And Everything Nice posted about her Instagrid Party last week, with a call for everyone to get involved. And as I was planning a weekly photo dump, i thought it might be nice to have coincide with this one that is already taking place.

So here is the last week in pics.
1. Waiting for the boy. 2. Thornbridge pints ahoy. 3. The boy made BBQ sauce - as you do. 4. It's lovely weather we're having.
5. A new way to keep him occupied. 6. Fruits. 7. I made this. 8. Stormy skies. 9. We finally had some sunshine.

You can follow me on instagram if you like - i am 'ohgoshem'. And if you're not an Instagram player but fancy a look at my pictures you can see them here.

If you want to get involved you can ask Anna to send you the grid template to use in PS, or you can head over to Big Huge Labs and use their mosaic creator - I used it on a 3x3 grid, with 8 pixels between each picture. The threw the completed picture into photoshop to add a title. I just like the ease of the mosaic creator - I hate resizing pictures.

Keeping Busy

The boy leaves for another month in India in, oh, 12 days. Not that I am counting or anything. I hate it when he is away, and it is amazing how many people disappear from view right when you could do with them, so I have learnt it is best to fully occupy yourself. With this in mind I have already started planning what I am going to do to fill my time. During his October trip last year I painted 2 whole rooms and re-vamped the downstairs of the house. His February trip was spent job hunting and visiting friends and attempting to paint things. Once again, it appears my time will be mostly filled with DIY based activities;

One of my friends is coming to stay with us for a few weeks until she can move back into her house and at the moment the room she will be living in is a bit of an empty shell – we had it plastered agggges ago, but since it’s not used much we just shut the door and ignore the bare plaster and un-curtained velux. I am not sure it’s fair to expect someone to live with just plaster on the walls for 6 weeks so I am going to give it a lick of paint, fashion up some blinds for the window and see if I can’t create something pretty from what we have right now.

I also want to repaint the kitchen – it’s a tiny space and we need more storage space. Unfortunately the shelves I bought to create more space are white. This immediately told me the walls are no longer white. The kitchen needs a repaint! And if the walls are newly white, then the cupboards are going to look grubby – would it be too much if I painted them too? And got new lino to cover the  old stuff already there? hmmmm.

And then there is the garden – if it ever gets cleared. Thats going to need a massive sort out. New plants and probably a new BBQ.

And thinking about it – it’s been a while since the bathroom had a coat of paint – but maybe that’s a little ambitious for 4 weekends work? What do you think? Maybe I can rope my friend in to helping - I was going to ask for wine, but hard labour is just as good as rent right?
