Have you heard about Sky Scarves?
I know I might be a thousand years behind on this one, but the Boy’s mum told me about a project she is starting – each day of 2013 she is recording the colour of the sky and will be knitting two lines of a scarf in that colour, with the aim being at the end of the year she has a scarf to remind her of the year – she has wool in white, two shades of grey and two shades of blue.
It sounds like such a great idea, but I can’t knit for the life of me, so I thought I might give it a go, but making a quilt. I thought squares of these coloured fabrics might make a wonderful quilt – now all we have to do is figure out the logistics of making 365 squares fit into a quilt {see the problem with that one?} and we’ll if I have the patience for it. I am a great fan of starting a project and letting it fall by the wayside!
Are there any quilter out there who’d like to offer me some advice?
But, if this plan fails, maybe I could try my hand at creating one of these stunning Sky Scarves;

Back in November I promised myself I would make a quilt in 2013 but have yet to buy the materials or decide on a pattern. Let me know how you get on, I need a kick up the rear to force me to start.
You might be waiting a LONG time before I finish (although I am planning on doing a month's colours at a time) I'd say – just do it. This will be my first attempt at actually making one too!
I love this idea but I can't knit either or crochet and I have never tried making a quilt #craftingfail

I've never tried a proper quilt before either – i am hoping doing it slowly will mean i a) don't mess up b) i actually read about what i am supposed to do!
You could use like hexagons and just patchwork them together – which is pretty simple to do. Although you'd need a lot of them to make up a quilt.
I've been thinking that i might sew 12 squares on a months sky that I can then sew together into one big quilt later. If I do it in pieces, it might actually get done.
I love this idea. I made a goal of crocheting a blanket and after a frantic amount of granny-squaring and sewing together between Christmas and New Year, it's finally starting to take shape! A sky-quilt sounds like an awesome idea too!
I would love to be able to crochet properly – i can make a beanie and thats about it. Will you be sharing the quilt when you're done? x
This is a great idea! I can't knit very well either so I don't know what has possessed me this year to learn crochet :/ The quilt idea is good, maybe make a mini one so you don't end up abandoning it?!
By the way, if I were to knit a sky scarf using where I live as inspiration…. it would be grey…. all of it! Ha! 😉 xx
I can crochet one thing – beanies & that's only because i was taught to do it by a bunch of pro snowboarders I lived with on my last season – apparently that's what all the cool boys did!
I'm thinking of doing the quilt month by month and then piecing them together at the end, then i have 12 small projects rather than one big one. I have a feeling in Sheffield there might be quite a lot of grey too!

You should totally do a crochet one – and if you're worried about having missed the sky so far – it's been a mixture of grey, dark grey and white ;).
